Clean Shorelines Comics Competition

Following the Clean Shorelines Slogan Competition organised in 2013, the WG was organising a Clean Shorelines Comics Competition from April to May 2014 to further promote in primary and secondary schools the message of keeping our shorelines clean.

Students were invited to create a 4-Panel comics with the theme of the WG activities in 2014 as follows –

"Take care of your trash. A small convenience for you has far-reaching impact on the environment."

A factsheet was also prepared to furnish students with information on the work of the WG and marine refuse and to facilitate their creation of the comics. Details of the competition could be found in Prospectus.

The competition was closed on 31 May 2014. Over 150 entries from 17 participating schools were received. The competition was divided into a primary school section and a secondary school section. A champion, a 1st runner-up, a 2nd runner-up and five outstanding awards in each section were selected by the adjudicating panel which comprised members of the WG. Clean Shorelines Day (5 July 2014)

Further to the Clean Shorelines Campaign launched in May 2013 with associated TV and radio Announcements of Public Interest, poster and this website, the Working Group organised a Clean Shorelines Day in the afternoon on 5 July 2014 (Saturday) at the Shek O Beach to further promote the clean shorelines message and to join hands with community partners in organising some fun ways for the community to learn about the importance of keeping our shorelines clean.

The Clean Shorelines Day included the award ceremony of the Clean Shorelines Comics Competition with exhibition of the winning entries; sharing by community groups on their experience, actions that could be taken by individuals to help keeping the shorelines clean, their upcoming activities, etc.; exhibition of clean shorelines materials and artwork, and game booths. We were delighted to have the support from ecobus, Green Council, Heroes 2, Hong Kong Cleanup/Ecovision, Living Lamma, Ocean Park, Ocean Park Conservation Fund, Plastic Free Seas and Yan Oi Tong on the event.

Clean Shorelines Video Filming Competition

Following the Clean Shorelines Comics Competition held earlier this year, the WG organised a Clean Shorelines Video Filming Competition from October to December 2014 to further promote the message of keeping our shorelines clean.

Secondary students, post-secondary students and the public were invited to create a 90-second video with the theme of the WG activities in 2014 as follows –
"Protect our coast, Leave no trace"

A factsheet was prepared to furnish participants with information on the work of the WG and marine refuse to facilitate their creation of the video. Details of the competition could be found in the Prospectus. Additionally, presentation materials were prepared by the Ocean Park and Mr C K Liu (Artist, Lecturer) to share on filming techniques and aesthetics, and provide information on marine refuse and marine ecology for participants’ reference.

The competition was closed on 10 December 2014. Over 40 entries were received. Winners of each Section were selected by the adjudicating panel which comprised representatives of members of the WG and the Ocean Park. The competition also had the “Most Popular Video Online” and “Smart Voter” awards to encourage public participation in an online voting campaign.
